Why Liverpool is supporting Fairtrade

Liverpool is an international City. Our maritime tradition means we look outwards to the rest of the world.  And our City is home to many different cultures.

It is the very dymanics of the City that has enabled us to become the European Capital of Culture for 2008 - the World in One City.

As a City we take our power, and our responsibilities very seriously.  We have the ability to help make a lasting change to the lives of people in the developing world.  And we have the responsibility to do so - the City in One World.

In March 2004, Liverpool became a Fairtrade City. We have pledged to go on to become the leading Fairtrade City in the UK.

This fits with our values of liberty, equality and community and a commitment to an outward and forward looking approach.

The City Council  is currently working with the Liverpool World Centre and other organisations to promote the goals of fair trade and to expand our fair trade work into schools, workplaces and community organisations.

We would welcome contact from any organisation wanting to help us in this goal.
